About the position

The Principal Engineer - Active Directory at Ally is responsible for managing and maintaining the Active Directory environment, ensuring its processes are current and effective. This role involves providing technical leadership, supporting application production activities, and collaborating with technology and business partners to develop solutions that meet business requirements. The position requires a strong focus on operational excellence, incident management, and continuous improvement within a highly regulated environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain the Active Directory environment and its processes.
• Provide technical leadership within IT to keep the Active Directory platform current.
• Oversee steady state application production support activities including access management, audits, incident management, and change management.
• Collaborate with technology and business partners to analyze tactical and strategic solutions.
• Maintain control of the change management process and resolve issues while mitigating risks.
• Assess, plan, and communicate steady state upgrades/patches to stakeholders and senior management.
• Drive and support end-to-end availability of all application and infrastructure components.
• Review existing workflows and systems to reduce duplication of effort and inefficiencies.
• Act as the single point of contact for Ally business users regarding platform availability.
• Partner with cross-functional IT teams to manage application severity incidents to quick resolution.
• Review and approve root cause analysis and preventative action items.
• Contribute to high impact problems/projects through evaluation of complex business processes and enterprise standards.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience with Active Directory and Entra in a highly regulated environment.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or comparable experience.
• Broad and deep understanding of technical concepts in multiple specialized fields.
• Proficiency with incident management and root cause analysis.
• Experience with Group and Conditional Access Policies, applying Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and Least Privileged concepts.
• Proficient with standard development tools such as Terraform, PowerShell, GitLab, and .Net.
