About the position

The Principal Engineer - Active Directory at Ally is responsible for managing and maintaining the Active Directory environment, ensuring its processes are current and effective. This role involves providing technical leadership, supporting application production activities, and collaborating with technology and business partners to develop solutions that meet business requirements. The position requires a strong focus on operational excellence, incident management, and mentoring junior team members.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain the Active Directory environment and its processes.
  • Provide technical leadership within IT to keep the Active Directory platform current.
  • Oversee steady state application production support activities including access management and incident management.
  • Collaborate with technology and business partners to analyze solutions and provide direction for design and deployment.
  • Maintain control of the change management process and resolve issues as they arise.
  • Assess, plan, and communicate upgrades/patches to stakeholders and senior management.
  • Drive end-to-end availability of application and infrastructure components.
  • Review existing workflows to reduce duplication and inefficiencies.
  • Act as the single point of contact for business users regarding platform availability.
  • Partner with cross-functional IT teams to manage application severity incidents.
  • Contribute to high impact projects through evaluation of complex business processes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience with Active Directory and Entra in a highly regulated environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or comparable experience.
  • Broad understanding of technical concepts in multiple specialized fields.
  • Proficiency with incident management and root cause analysis.
  • Experience with Group and Conditional Access Policies, applying RBAC and Least Privileged concepts.
  • Proficient with development tools such as Terraform, PowerShell, GitLab, and .Net.
