About the position

The Principal Engineer, Advanced Engineering Electrification at John Deere is responsible for leading and executing research and development projects in vehicle electrification. This role involves leveraging expert knowledge to set strategic research priorities, enhance intellectual property, and guide the development of electrification talent within the organization. The position requires collaboration with platform engineers to translate technological innovations into product development, ensuring alignment with key performance metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute research and development projects in vehicle electrification.
  • Set strategic research priorities in electrification that positively impact key performance metrics.
  • Act as a thought leader to influence decisions across multiple platforms at John Deere.
  • Guide, coach, and train employees to enhance engagement and retention of electrification talent.
  • Collaborate with platform engineers to transition technology development into product development.

Requirements

  • Recognized world-class expert in power electronics and vehicle electrification.
  • Deep expertise in power electronics switching modulation schemes and magnetic components design.
  • Extensive knowledge in mechanical power conversion and electrification controls.
  • 5 or more years of experience influencing without authority.
  • Demonstrated experience in producing high-quality technical documentation.
  • Proficient in training and teaching others.
  • Fluent in written and verbal English.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally.

Nice-to-haves

  • 15 or more years of relevant experience in electric drives system-level design and analysis.
  • Control systems expertise.
  • 5 or more years of dynamic systems modeling and analysis experience.
  • Expert user of Matlab/Simulink.
  • Experience collaborating with outside resources for research.
  • Demonstrated technical and non-technical self-learner.
  • Business or startup experience.
  • PhD and industry-relevant academic publications.
