About the position

The Principal Engineer, Advanced Engineering Electrification at John Deere is responsible for leading and executing research and development projects in vehicle electrification. This role involves leveraging expertise to set strategic research priorities, guiding and training employees, and collaborating with platform engineers to innovate and integrate technology into product development. The position is based in various locations including Fargo, ND, Cary, NC, Waterloo, IA, Moline, IL, or Dubuque, IA, and offers a flexible work schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute research and development projects in vehicle electrification.
  • Set strategic research priorities that positively impact key performance metrics.
  • Act as a thought leader to influence decisions across multiple platforms.
  • Guide, coach, and train employees to enhance engagement and talent development.
  • Collaborate with platform engineers to transition technology development into product development.

Requirements

  • Recognized world-class expert in power electronics and vehicle electrification.
  • Deep expertise in power electronics switching modulation schemes and magnetic components design.
  • Extensive knowledge in mechanical power conversion and electrification controls.
  • 5 or more years of experience influencing without authority.
  • Demonstrated experience in producing high-quality technical documentation.
  • Proficient in training and teaching others.
  • Fluent in written and verbal English.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally.

Nice-to-haves

  • 15 or more years of relevant experience in electric drives and power electronics.
  • Control systems expertise.
  • 5 or more years of dynamic systems modeling and analysis.
  • Expert user of Matlab/Simulink.
  • Experience collaborating with outside resources for research.
  • PhD and industry-relevant academic publications.
