About the position

The Principal Engineer role within the AWS Hardware Engineering team focuses on creating innovative compute and storage server designs that are critical to the success of Amazon Web Services. This position involves establishing technical standards, driving architectural practices, and solving complex engineering problems to build high-quality systems that meet business needs. The role requires a blend of hands-on technical work and high-level architectural design, contributing to the hardware design life cycle and ensuring the reliability and performance of server hardware.

Responsibilities

• Establish technical standards and drive overall technical architecture for AWS hardware systems.
• Design and develop high-quality, architecturally sound systems aligned with business needs.
• Manage the hardware design life cycle and ensure the health and manageability of server hardware.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create custom solutions that enhance customer experience.
• Produce detailed technical work and high-level architectural designs.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in server technologies, including electrical, mechanical, thermal, and software.
• 8+ years of experience in architecture and design of new and current systems, focusing on reliability and scaling.

Nice-to-haves

• Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
• Experience developing and operating hardware at scale.
