About the position

Longenecker & Associates (L&A) is seeking a motivated Principal Engineer - Electrical Design Engineer to support critical missions at SRNS in Aiken, SC. This role involves defining technical program scopes, developing quality solutions to complex engineering challenges, and providing leadership in engineering design and analysis. The position requires a strong commitment to mission success and the well-being of employees, the nation, and the environment, with a focus on building a healthier future.

Responsibilities

  • Define scope of technical programs and develop effective, quality solutions to challenges.
  • Provide quality guidance and assistance to less senior professionals on related tasks.
  • Apply technical experience to resolve complex problems in electrical design.
  • Incorporate advanced technical practices into problem solving and program planning.
  • Evaluate program results and prepare reports and recommendations based on evaluations.
  • Prepare plans including schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements for technical tasks.
  • Communicate results and objectives verbally and in written form to customers and management.
  • Provide design engineering staff augmentation support to SRNS, including engineering analysis and construction support.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in applicable science or engineering discipline with 5+ years of experience, or MS with 8+ years, or BS with 10+ years of experience.
  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering or current registration as a Professional Engineer in Electrical Engineering.
  • Ten years of design experience in the nuclear or chemical process industry.
  • Working knowledge of NEC, IES, NFPA, IEEE, and OSHA requirements.
  • Experience using software (preferably ETAP) to generate electrical system calculations.
  • Ability to perform weekly field walk downs of job sites.

Nice-to-haves

  • Possession of an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two years.
  • Prior SRS Design Engineering experience and knowledge of SRNS design processes.
  • Proficiency in using MicroStation 2D CADD software.
