About the position

We are seeking a Principal Engineer - Electrical System Engineer to design electrical subsystems for challenging space, air, and ground applications. This role requires a technical leader with expertise in electrical subsystem technologies who can craft electrical solutions for a wide variety of remote sensing and controls related applications. You will be responsible for creating the electrical subsystems of the future, contributing to the Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit, which comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers' missions. Our collaborative, cross-functional teams are committed to innovation, integrity, continual learning, and strong execution. In this position, you will provide technical leadership for a multidisciplinary system team, which includes optical, mechanical, focal plane, thermal, RF, and software disciplines, as well as suppliers. Your role will involve creating, influencing, and defining discriminating electronics solutions to complex customer needs. You will provide subject matter expertise in space-based electronics systems for spacecraft, payload, and components. Additionally, you will compose objective, quantifiable trade studies that incorporate heritage system designs as well as new technologies and supplier capabilities to guide critical architectural decisions affecting the performance of other systems and subsystems. Your responsibilities will also include electrical system-level modeling and simulation, analysis, trades, risk assessment, requirements derivation, allocation, and flow down. You will maintain end-to-end electrical compatibility, functional allocations, and margins across the entire system. Leading the resolution of electrical hardware anomalies at the system level and determining root cause and corrective action will be key aspects of your role. You will identify and mitigate technical risks early in the design phase and present analysis, findings, and designs to peers, internal management, and customers throughout program phases such as Proposal, IBR, SRR, PDR, CDR, and IV&V. Mentoring junior engineers in mission understanding, electrical subsystem technologies, and concepts will also be part of your responsibilities. You will be expected to maintain a regular and predictable work schedule and establish effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units, and the Company. Interacting appropriately with others to maintain a positive and productive work environment is essential.
