About the position

The Principal Engineering/Technical Lead at Abbott's Electrophysiology Medical Device Division is responsible for designing electromechanical medical devices, specifically focusing on magnetic navigation systems. This role involves leading a research and development team, managing project goals, and ensuring compliance with industry standards while advancing the treatment of heart and vascular diseases through innovative technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the research, development, and customization of magnetic navigation systems.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate with internal and external customers.
  • Determine the design and evaluation of next generation ENSite X EP Systems.
  • Support animal studies, bench testing, and clinical evaluations.
  • Complete and lead engineering research and development projects, including setting and revising requirements and specifications.
  • Debug, test, and complete documentation to ensure feasibility and verifiability of performance.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks.
  • Communicate project successes, risks, and roadblocks to management levels.
  • Ensure compliance with Abbott, FDA, and ISO design controls.
  • Solve complex technical problems using sound judgment and technical expertise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related engineering field.
  • 15+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in EM navigation systems theory, sensors, algorithms, and hardware design.
  • Experience in project management and/or leading projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Medical Device product development experience.
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related engineering.
  • Magnetic FEA modeling experience.
  • Familiarity with IEC 60601 family of standards.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks, Altium or other CAD tools.
  • Magnetic experience in a recent Research and Development role.
