About the position

The Principal Engineer - Electrical is a responsible leader overseeing the development and design of lines and substations within BES/CLCPA Programs for major capital projects in Avangrid's operating territory in New York. This role involves managing engineering performance across all project phases, from scoping and budgeting to construction and closeout, while ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and mentoring of junior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the development and design of lines and substations for major capital projects.
  • Oversee engineering performance across all project phases including scoping, budgeting, and construction.
  • Perform engineering analyses, designs, and calculations using standard methodologies.
  • Lead the creation of new conceptual designs and oversee external designers.
  • Act as a liaison with stakeholders, representing the Substations group.
  • Solve complex engineering problems and analyze possible solutions.
  • Ensure engineering designs meet applicable codes and standards.
  • Support technical requests from customers.
  • Mentor and develop team members in technical skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience required.
  • Professional Engineering License preferred.
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage projects.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory environment and contract management.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Technical experience in a utility environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with construction and maintenance standards in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of Electrical, Civil, and P&C Engineering standards up to 345kV.
