As a Principal Embedded Cybersecurity Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in architecting and developing next-generation embedded platforms and associated security technologies. This position is not just about technology; it’s about enabling sustainable air travel and advancing aviation systems for both commercial and military applications. You will lead and contribute to cutting-edge research and development programs, collaborating with U.S. Government Agencies and fellow researchers across various technology disciplines. Your contributions will span a wide range of GE Aerospace programs, making a significant impact on the future of aviation. In this role, you will work independently and as part of a team to develop and apply advanced cybersecurity technologies specifically tailored for embedded systems used in GE Aerospace products. You will interact closely with hardware, software, and firmware developers, as well as engineering tool providers, to identify and implement solutions for the most challenging applications. Your leadership will be crucial as you manage medium- to large-sized projects, ensuring that all technology and results are meticulously documented through patent applications, technical reports, and publications. Staying current with advances in embedded cybersecurity will be essential, as you will be expected to seek out new ideas and applications that can enhance our offerings. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work alongside colleagues across GE Aerospace and various government agencies. You will also shape and lead proposal responses to government agencies such as DARPA, NASA, and AFRL, ensuring that our projects align with their needs and expectations. This position offers a unique opportunity to be at the intersection of technology and innovation, driving forward the capabilities of embedded systems in the aerospace sector.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and apply advanced cybersecurity technologies for embedded systems for GE Aerospace products.
  • Interact with hardware, software, and firmware developers to identify appropriate solutions for challenging applications.
  • Lead medium- to large-sized projects or tasks.
  • Document technology and results through patent applications, technical reports, and publications.
  • Stay current with advances in embedded cybersecurity to seek out new ideas and applications.
  • Collaborate in a team environment with colleagues across GE Aerospace and government agencies.
  • Shape and lead proposal responses to government agencies (DARPA, NASA, AFRL, etc.).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines with a minimum of 15 years of industry experience, OR a master's degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience, OR a Ph.D. with a minimum of 7 years of experience.
  • Familiarity with CNSA 1.0/2.0 and NIST cryptographic algorithms and standards.
  • Strong background in software development for embedded systems such as computer architecture, Linux OS, and/or RTOS.
  • Experience with networking protocols and network security.
  • Strong embedded programming skills such as C/C++, Python, Go, Rust.
  • Experience with Linux OS security.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance.
  • Willingness to travel a minimum of 2 weeks per year.
  • US citizenship required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Active US Government Security Clearance.
  • Experience with embedded devices (e.g., Xilinx, NXP, MicroChip, etc.).
  • Experience with hardware-based security (e.g., UEFI, TPM, ARM TrustZone, Secure Boot).
  • Experience with cryptographic libraries (e.g., OpenSSL and/or wolfSSL).
  • Experience with embedded development in an RTOS environment (e.g., VxWorks, FreeRTOS).
  • Experience with anti-tamper technologies.
  • Experience with cross domain solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to take an innovative idea from a concept to a product.
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with the Agile methodology of program management.
