About the position

The Principal Engineer at United Airlines plays a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency of engineering tools, processes, and training within the Technical Operations team. This position involves identifying deficiencies, implementing solutions, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards while maintaining fleet reliability and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Support and measure the efficiency of existing tools, processes, and training.
  • Identify deficiencies and work cross-functionally to implement solutions.
  • Assess the impact of processes, tools, and training, balancing cost, asset utilization, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Study, analyze, and seek solutions to problems related to engineering tools, processes, and training performance.
  • Lead structured problem-solving groups using lean techniques.
  • Develop solutions for sophisticated engineering challenges and manage the entire project lifecycle, including justification, cost/benefit analysis, and implementation.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, coordinating with internal and external teams to ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and fleet reliability.
  • Coordinate work with other operational groups to ensure airworthiness, safety, regulatory compliance, operational reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Connect with partners on technical issues, process recommendations, and quality investigations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, aerospace, or industrial engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5 years in a senior engineering or similar role in the industry.
  • Strong analytical and project management skills, particularly for regulatory compliance projects.
  • Outstanding verbal and technical writing abilities.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Consistent and punctual attendance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced engineering degree.
  • Experience in maintenance check engineering on Boeing/Airbus aircraft.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and presentation.
  • Familiarity with Foundry or similar data analysis tools.
  • Solid understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (parts 145, 25, and 121).
