About the position

Wells Fargo is seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer with deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Terraform Enterprise (TFE) to lead our cloud infrastructure team. This role involves providing technical leadership and hands-on expertise in driving key initiatives such as infrastructure automation, scalability, and high availability. The ideal candidate will also play a pivotal part in high-priority projects like GenAI and will be groomed for future leadership responsibilities within the organization.

Responsibilities

• Define the infrastructure strategy and architecture for GCP environments, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security across all platforms.
• Design, implement, and manage cloud-based infrastructure solutions on GCP, including compute, storage, networking, and managed services.
• Lead and drive automation initiatives using Terraform and Terraform Enterprise, optimizing infrastructure deployment and management processes.
• Mentor and guide engineers on the team, with the intent to be groomed as a potential successor for the Head of GCP Support.
• Lead and oversee the successful execution of critical projects, including GenAI, ensuring delivery within tight deadlines.
• Work closely with software development, DevOps, and product teams to ensure infrastructure aligns with business goals and enhances application performance.
• Proactively identify opportunities to optimize GCP infrastructure costs while maintaining service performance and reliability.
• Ensure infrastructure solutions adhere to security best practices and industry compliance standards.
• Translate complex technical concepts and strategies into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders, including executive leadership.

Requirements

• 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.
• 7+ years of experience in Infrastructure Engineering, with at least 5 years of experience working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

Nice-to-haves

• Extensive hands-on experience with Terraform and Terraform Enterprise (TFE) for infrastructure automation.
• Proven experience in leading and mentoring technical teams, with a strong ability to drive technical direction and influence decision-making across teams.
• Deep knowledge of cloud-native architectures, infrastructure automation, and scalable cloud solutions.
• Strong understanding of networking, security, and CI/CD pipelines in a cloud environment.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues at scale.
• Experience in managing infrastructure for mission-critical applications with high availability requirements.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies like Kubernetes or Docker is a plus.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Experience with high-priority, high-impact projects such as GenAI is a plus.
• Familiarity with service management tools such as JIRA, ServiceNow, and other cloud monitoring tools.
• Prior experience in leadership roles, with a track record of successful project delivery within tight deadlines.
