About the position

Seeking a Principal Engineer (I&C Design Engineer) to support our federal government client in Aiken, SC. The Contractor will perform various duties including defining the scope of technical programs, developing effective solutions to unique or controversial problems, and providing leadership in determining solutions to complex problems. The role requires applying technical experience in the field of specialization to resolve complex issues, incorporating advanced technical practices, and evaluating program results. The position also involves preparing plans, schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements for solving technical tasks, as well as communicating results and objectives to customers and management. Specific duties include providing design engineering staff augmentation support, performing engineering analysis, and generating design output documents such as P&IDs, Control Logics, and Instrument Specifications.

Responsibilities

• Define scope of technical programs and develop effective, quality solutions to challenges.
• Apply technical experience in field of specialization to resolve complex problems.
• Incorporate advanced technical practices into problem solving and program planning.
• Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems.
• Evaluate the results of programs and prepare reports and recommendations.
• Identify and recommend improvements for established technology components.
• Prepare plans including schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements.
• Develop schedules, monitor progress, and review quality of work performed.
• Communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscript form.
• Prepare reports for external publication.
• Enhance expertise in the field through leadership in local technical societies.
• Demonstrate creative ability through patent disclosures and technical papers.
• Provide design engineering staff augmentation support to SRNS.
• Perform engineering analysis, walkdowns, and design development.
• Generate design output documents including P&IDs, Control Logics, and Instrument Specifications.

Requirements

• Must demonstrate ten (10) years of direct I&C design experience in the nuclear or process chemical industry.
• Must demonstrate design experience with process control instrumentation, PLCs, and distributed control systems.
• Proficiency in using MicroStation 2D Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) software.
• Must be able to perform weekly field walk downs of the job site.
• Must be able to provide professional references.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE 'Q' security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

• Possession of an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years.
• Previous SRS Design Engineering or DOE facility experience.
