Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Industrial Engineer (Level 3) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in El Segundo, CA. The Industrial Engineering Team is an integral part of day-to-day operations and routinely works alongside many of the other organizations here in El Segundo. This is a team that comes together to learn, collaborate, and overcome challenges in a fast-paced environment. As a Principal Industrial Engineer, you will analyze and design sequences of operations and workflows to improve efficiencies in plant and production facilities and equipment layouts. You will establish methods for maximum utilization of production facilities and personnel, and may establish or assist in establishing accident prevention measures. You will conduct studies pertaining to cost control, cost reduction, inventory control, and production record systems, and based on these studies, develop and implement plans and programs for facility modifications and revisions to operating methods. You may assist facilities engineers in the planning and design of facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement plans that ensure the timely availability and effective utilization of labor, general facilities & space utilization, equipment, & tooling resources enabling the achievement of program delivery and cost milestones
  • Conduct studies pertaining to cost control, cost reduction, inventory control, and production record systems
  • Develop optimized scheduling tools and align SAP/MRP systems with an executable plan given various capacity constraints
  • Based on outcomes from the studies, develop and implement plans and programs for facility modifications and revisions to operating methods
  • Assist facility engineers in the planning and design of manufacturing areas
  • Provide capacity planning, shop-loading, and staffing analysis for functional production teams
  • Analyze existing operational processes and develop metrics and reporting to optimize and improve program & operational performance
  • Support more than one product line and manufacturing area(s), as well as support multiple programs or production managers
  • Conduct process simulation as requested
  • Implement manufacturing techniques (Lean, 5S, AGILE, 5 Why, Ishikawa Diagrams, Standard Work, kaizen, Visual Management, etc.) as much as possible through teaching, demonstration, and general communication.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree with 4 or more years of industrial engineering experience; OR a Master of Science degree with 3 or more years of industrial engineering experience; OR a PHD degree with 0 or more years of industrial engineering experience
  • Experience with data mining, data analysis, or data visualization software applications e.g. Tableau, MS-Excel etc.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOD Security Clearance and special program access
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Nice-to-haves

  • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) degree preferred
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a manufacturing environment
  • At least 2 or more years of demonstrated experience leading project teams
  • Experience maintaining and developing SharePoint sites
  • Experience performing Earned Value Management System (EVMS)
  • Experience with SQL, VBA, or other programming languages
  • Experience with improving manufacturing workflow using optimization, modeling, simulation methods or discrete event simulation
  • Experience with agile methods of project management or development
