About the position

The Principal Industrial Engineer (Level 3) at Northrop Grumman will play a crucial role in enhancing operational efficiencies within manufacturing environments. This position involves analyzing and designing workflows, optimizing resource utilization, and implementing cost control measures. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and execute plans that ensure timely program delivery while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement plans that ensure the timely availability and effective utilization of labor, general facilities & space utilization, equipment, & tooling resources enabling the achievement of program delivery and cost milestones
  • Conduct studies pertaining to cost control, cost reduction, inventory control, and production record systems
  • Develop optimized scheduling tools and align SAP/MRP systems with an executable plan given various capacity constraints
  • Based on outcomes from the studies, develop and implement plans and programs for facility modifications and revisions to operating methods
  • Assist facility engineers in the planning and design of manufacturing areas
  • Provide capacity planning, shop-loading, and staffing analysis for functional production teams
  • Analyze existing operational processes and develop metrics and reporting to optimize and improve program & operational performance
  • Support more than one product line and manufacturing area(s), as well as support multiple programs or production managers
  • Conduct process simulation as requested
  • Implement manufacturing techniques (Lean, 5S, AGILE, etc.) through teaching, demonstration, and general communication.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree with 4 years of Industrial Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment; OR a Master of Science degree with 3 years of Industrial Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment; OR a PhD degree with 0 years of Industrial Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with data mining, data analysis, or data visualization software applications e.g. Tableau, MS-Excel
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a manufacturing environment
  • Minimum 2 years of demonstrated experience leading project teams
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOD Security Clearance and special program access
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Nice-to-haves

  • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) degree preferred
  • Experience in an aerospace or automobile environment
  • Experience maintaining and developing SharePoint sites
  • Experience performing Earned Value Management System (EVMS)
  • Experience with SQL, VBA, or other programming languages
  • Experience with improving manufacturing workflow using optimization, modeling, simulation methods or discrete event simulation
  • Experience with agile methods of project management or development
