About the position

The Principal Engineer - Instrumentation & Electrical (PCT) is responsible for leading instrumentation and process control systems projects across multiple sites in the US. This role involves providing technical oversight, mentoring engineers, and ensuring the successful execution of capital investment projects while adhering to safety, budget, and schedule requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Act as liaison for all non-local operational PCT issues on all 4 RFM sites in the US, including OT/Cyber Security, MES, and Functional Safety.
  • Provide technical oversight and mentorship for less experienced I&E/PCT engineers.
  • Lead as Project Manager for I&E/PCT projects and/or as PCT Lead for multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Apply instrumentation & process control expertise for I&E/PCT capital investment projects.
  • Lead I&E/PCT project teams through all phases of capital investment projects, including concept development, estimating, engineering, procurement, construction, and start-up.
  • Ensure all I&E/PCT engineering aspects meet project objectives such as safety, technical correctness, budget, constructability, schedule, maintainability, and operability.
  • Interface with other engineering disciplines, customers, and vendors to ensure successful project execution.
  • Generate, review, and approve I&E/PCT specifications, drawings, and documentation; assist in compiling construction packages.
  • Coordinate field support and participate in check out, commissioning, and start-up.
  • Assess and modify existing I&E/PCT practices, standards, and guidelines to stay current with technology.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Chemical engineering or equivalent with strong interest in PCT or systems and at least 6 years of experience in I&E/PCT design and engineering in chemical, petrochemical, or industrial facilities; OR
  • Master's degree in Electrical or Chemical engineering or equivalent with strong interest in PCT or systems and at least 4 years of experience in I&E/PCT design and engineering; OR
  • PhD in Electrical or Chemical engineering or equivalent with strong interest in PCT or systems and at least 2 years of experience in I&E/PCT design and engineering.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional registration and/or certification in Functional Safety.
  • Advanced education (i.e. Master's Degree) and willingness to pursue certifications and training.
