About the position

The Principal Engineer, Machine Learning / AI at SoFi is a pivotal role focused on enhancing the company's technical capabilities in machine learning and artificial intelligence. This position involves collaboration across multiple teams to develop impactful ML/AI products, providing mentorship, and establishing technical standards. The role requires a blend of strong engineering skills and strategic thinking to drive vision and execution in a highly collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with multiple teams to build ML / AI products that deliver value to members.
• Serve as the tech lead and architect for ML and AI across various business units, driving technical standards company-wide.
• Advocate for improved practices and establish inspiring standards for hiring, coding, and collaboration.
• Develop and socialize impactful technology, engineering principles, and concepts.
• Work across teams to enhance products and systems at SoFi.
• Provide technical mentorship to data scientists and foster a data-driven culture.
• Lead and present in broad forums with senior technical leaders across the company.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field from an accredited institution.
• 8+ years of impactful experience in machine learning and AI, with a focus on methods and implementation.
• Expert understanding and hands-on experience in building, integrating, and operating production data products and infrastructure.
• Deep hands-on experience with technologies such as Airflow, DBT, git, docker/k8s, BI tools, Spark, AWS, Snowflake, sklearn, TF, PyTorch, etc.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on collaboration and sharing information.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in finance or fintech is preferred but not mandatory.
• A strong desire to learn and grow in the finance space.
