About the position

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer in the Operating Plants Mechanical Systems area at Westinghouse Electric Company, you will play a crucial role in supporting the mission to provide clean energy solutions. This position involves working collaboratively with a multi-discipline team of engineers to design, analyze, and evaluate systems using advanced engineering software. You will be responsible for applying engineering principles and adhering to engineering codes and standards, such as ASME and ANSI, to ensure the integrity and safety of systems in operation at nuclear power plants, as well as in the development of new plants like the AP1000 and eVinci, and other nuclear projects including fuel fabrication facilities. In this role, you will resolve technical issues that arise in the operation of nuclear power plants and contribute to the development of calculations and reports that document design and analysis results in compliance with ASME Section III code requirements and other international standards. You will also interface with engineers from other disciplines, such as electrical and civil/structural, and participate in project teams that may include both internal and external stakeholders. Your responsibilities will extend to participating in customer and vendor meetings, where you will present technical materials and justify service and product designs. You will be expected to perform your work within established scope, budgetary, and schedule requirements, while also identifying and assisting in the development of new business opportunities as they arise. As a leader in this role, you will mentor junior engineers, guiding them through complex problem-solving processes and fostering their professional development. Your technical leadership competencies will be essential in applying your technical knowledge, mentoring others, and supporting product marketing initiatives. You will also need to demonstrate strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders in an international environment.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a multi-discipline team of engineers in the design, analysis, and evaluation of systems using engineering software.
  • Apply engineering principles and engineering codes & standards, such as ASME and ANSI, to the design, analysis, and evaluation of systems.
  • Resolve technical issues for operating nuclear power plants, new plants (e.g., AP1000, eVinci), and other nuclear projects (e.g., fuel fabrication facilities).
  • Develop calculations and reports to document design and analysis results in accordance with ASME Section III code requirements and other international codes.
  • Interface with engineers in other disciplines such as electrical and civil/structural.
  • Participate on project teams with internal and/or external representation.
  • Participate in customer and vendor meetings to present technical materials and justification of services and product designs.
  • Perform work within established scope, budgetary and schedule requirements.
  • Identify and assist in the development of new business opportunities, as available.
  • Lead complex problem solving and resolution.
  • Mentor more junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mechanical (preferred), Civil, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Master of Science (M.S.) degree is a plus.
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) in one or various engineering areas.
  • Professional Engineer license.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience.
  • Power industry (e.g., nuclear power plant) experience is a plus.
  • Able to demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (i.e., Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Ability to work with multiple functions to coordinate the flow of information.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in the English language. Proficiency in other languages is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Accuracy, thoroughness, and timeliness.
  • Ability to work in an international team environment.
  • Ability to travel for site visits, short-term, or long-term assignments.
