About the position

The Principal Mechanical Engineer at Westinghouse Electric will play a crucial role in the design, analysis, and evaluation of mechanical systems within the Operating Plants Mechanical Systems area. This position involves collaboration with a multi-discipline team to resolve technical issues for operating nuclear power plants and new projects, ensuring compliance with engineering codes and standards. The role also includes mentoring junior engineers and identifying new business opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a multi-discipline team of engineers in the design, analysis, and evaluation of systems using engineering software.
  • Apply engineering principles and codes & standards, such as ASME and ANSI, to system design and analysis.
  • Resolve technical issues for operating nuclear power plants and new projects.
  • Develop calculations and reports to document design and analysis results in accordance with ASME Section III code requirements.
  • Interface with engineers in other disciplines such as electrical and civil/structural.
  • Participate on project teams with internal and/or external representation.
  • Participate in customer and vendor meetings to present technical materials and justification of services and product designs.
  • Perform work within established scope, budgetary and schedule requirements.
  • Identify and assist in the development of new business opportunities.
  • Lead complex problem solving and resolution.
  • Mentor more junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer license.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience.
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) in one or various engineering areas.
  • Power industry experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in other languages is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in an international team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master of Science (M.S.) degree is a plus.
  • Experience in the nuclear power industry.
