About the position

As a Principal Engineer Network at Albertsons Companies, you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and maintaining our network infrastructure to meet the organization's current and future business needs. This position is based out of our Pleasanton, CA office, and you will be part of a team of talented professionals who collaborate with cross-functional teams to contribute to the strategic direction of our network architecture. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring that our network solutions are scalable, reliable, and high-performing, aligning with industry best practices and business requirements. In this role, you will lead the technical direction of network projects, mentoring a team of network engineers and fostering a collaborative and innovative environment that encourages professional growth. You will manage and execute network-related projects from conception to completion, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards. Your responsibilities will also include implementing and maintaining robust security measures to protect the organization's network infrastructure, staying abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to proactively address security threats. You will provide expert-level support for complex network issues, conducting root cause analysis and implementing preventive measures to minimize network downtime. Additionally, you will collaborate with vendors to evaluate and select hardware, software, and services that align with the organization's goals, negotiating contracts and managing vendor relationships to ensure optimal service levels. Comprehensive documentation of network configurations, diagrams, and standard operating procedures will be part of your duties, along with generating regular reports on network performance, capacity, and security.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement scalable, reliable, and high-performance network solutions.
  • Design and optimize network architecture to meet business requirements and industry best practices.
  • Lead technical direction and mentor a team of network engineers, providing guidance and expertise.
  • Manage and execute network-related projects from conception to completion, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
  • Collaborate with other departments to understand their network requirements and integrate solutions accordingly as part of Architecture Review Board processes.
  • Implement and maintain robust security measures to protect the organization's network infrastructure.
  • Provide expert-level support for complex network issues, collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve issues promptly.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventive measures to minimize network downtime.
  • Collaborate with vendors to evaluate and select hardware, software, and services that align with the organization's goals.
  • Maintain comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and standard operating procedures.
  • Generate regular reports on network performance, capacity, and security.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 10 years of experience in network engineering roles, with a focus on multi-cloud network designs and integration with campus/on-prem locations.
  • 8 years of experience with network operating systems, including Juniper, Cisco IOS and NxOS.
  • Experience in LAN/WAN architecture and implementation for large enterprise networks (10,000 plus devices).
  • Proven experience in creating and delivering detailed technical presentations of network solutions to Senior/Executive level Management.
  • In-depth knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 advanced protocols, Palo Alto/Fortinet Firewall Design, Engineering and L4 troubleshooting, BGP, OSPF, VSS, VPC, VNET protocols, and SD-WAN Design and implementation.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Industry certifications such as CCIE, CISSP, or equivalent are highly desirable.
