About the position

The Principal Engineer at Pennoni will serve as a key member of the Land Development team, responsible for leading multi-discipline designs for public and private site development projects. This role combines engineering expertise with project management skills to ensure effective project delivery while mentoring less-experienced staff and contributing to business development efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare civil/site engineering designs & plans for jurisdictional approval and permitting.
  • Collaborate with Design staff, Engineers, and other Project Managers to complete projects.
  • Complete tasks & assignments as directed by other Project Managers within project timeframes and budgetary constraints.
  • Apply knowledge of design standards to develop effective engineering solutions.
  • Document solutions in an organized manner and communicate them to Project Managers and the Design team.
  • Ensure effective project development by setting budgetary constraints, filing project data, and meeting design criteria/client requirements.
  • Lead meetings with clients and provide updates on project status.
  • Contribute to Business Development efforts by identifying and helping to secure new clients.
  • Serve as a Mentor for less-experienced staff members.
  • Perform additional tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably Civil, Construction, Environmental, or a similar technical discipline).
  • PE credential.
  • 12+ years of professional experience in Engineering, preferably with design, construction, and/or land development projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proven leadership skills; Management and/or Project Management experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with residential and commercial development projects.
  • Proven expertise with Water Resources engineering, including stormwater management design & permitting.
  • Proficiency with engineering tools (e.g., CADD, project management software).
  • Experience with building and/or maintaining client relationships; Business Development experience is a plus.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work in a challenging environment on various projects.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
