About the position

The Principal Engineer/Researcher for Data and AI Platform Solutions will conduct research in AI and data technologies to develop next-generation mobility services. This role involves collaborating with university researchers, innovating data capabilities, and leading discussions on emerging technologies to support the Infrastructure and Data Platform Department's objectives.

Responsibilities

• Define research goals & tasks for AI and/or data technology.
• Work with university researchers on emergent AI and data technologies and algorithms.
• Research and develop data platforms (open source, commercial) for multiple business services.
• Innovate and develop new data capabilities.
• Generate patents and publications.
• Lead discussions on multiple products/applications using emerging data and AI technologies.
• Research and develop new capabilities within data domains (data ingest, integration, labeling, cleansing, processing, analytics, management).
• Develop innovative ideas and solutions for AI and data domains that enhance performance, scalability, and security.
• Conduct PoC and benchmarks for data services/capabilities.
• Establish research collaborations with leading experts in universities and industry consortiums.
• Mentor and train junior researchers.
• Transfer ITL research to advanced development or business contributions.
• Champion research and present to VP and GVP level, showcasing AI or data technology expertise.
• Evangelize the importance of AI and create vision and roadmap.

Requirements

• PhD in Computer Science, Math, Statistics or related field.
• 5 years of hands-on experience in R&D with proven credentials in patents and publications.
• Strong familiarity with end-to-end data services/domains and technologies.
• Experience with data ingest, integration, processing, access, analytics, and databases.
• Knowledge of data storage technology and memory/cache.
• Experience in PoC and benchmarking in AI or data infrastructure.
• 3 years of research experience with data infrastructure and platform development.
• 3 years of experience with advanced data platforms and distributed cloud systems.
• 3 years of hands-on prototyping and programming knowledge (e.g., Python, SQL/NoSQL, Kafka, Spark).
• 3 years of managing research projects, including planning and reporting.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a corporate lab setting with cross-functional collaboration.
• 3 years of experience with IoT, edge, and distributed cloud architecture.
• 3 years of experience in proof-of-concept prototyping for connected cars and IoT systems.
• 2 years of experience with cloud bulk data ingestion techniques (e.g., AWS, Spark, Kafka).
• 2 years of programming experience with Python, Rust, and embedded systems.
• 2 years of working experience with connected car architecture and vehicle compute requirements.
