About the position

The Principal Engineer at Westinghouse Fauske & Associates, Inc. (FAI) will lead and mentor a team in performing advanced engineering calculations and supporting validation experiments, with a strong emphasis on safety within the nuclear industry. This hybrid role requires a combination of on-site and remote work, focusing on nuclear safety assessments, software development, and technical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor less experienced employees in state-of-the-art calculations and software development.
  • Perform engineering calculations and assessments related to nuclear safety, including safe operation of nuclear power plants and waste treatment.
  • Conduct thermal-hydraulics modeling and analysis, heat & mass transfer, and radiological source term evaluations.
  • Prepare and independently review documentation supporting evaluations and analyses.
  • Verify evaluations and analyses performed by others, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Plan and schedule work to meet assignment requirements within budgetary constraints.
  • Develop skills for more independent assignments and support business strategic initiatives.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering (Chemical, Nuclear, Mechanical).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in engineering roles.
  • 15+ years of coding experience in C++, Fortran, Visual Basic, MathCAD, and/or Python.
  • 5+ years' experience with Modular Accident Analysis Program (MAAP).
  • Strong general mathematical and modeling skills.
  • Technical writing proficiency.
  • Knowledge of thermodynamics and transport phenomena (momentum, heat, and mass).
  • Experience in kinetics and multi-phase flow modeling.
  • Understanding of Probability Risk Assessment (PRA).

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters in Engineering (Chemical, Nuclear, Mechanical).
  • Doctorate Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Nuclear, Mechanical).
  • PE Certification.
  • 10-15 years overall experience preferred but not required.
