About the position

The Energetics and Propulsion Department, part of the Mechanical Engineering Directorate, is seeking a Principal Engineer - Solid Propulsion to join our team in Tucson, Arizona. This role is pivotal in the design and development of propulsion technology that supports our Land Warfare and Air Defense mission areas. As a Principal Engineer, you will apply or develop highly advanced technologies, scientific principles, theories, and concepts to integrate propulsion systems, thrusters, controllers, software, and mechanical and electrical interfaces into missile systems and space vehicles. In this position, you will be involved in both development and production programs across various Raytheon Product Lines. You will review manufacturing processes, resolve problems, and work directly with subcontractors on the design and manufacturing of solid rocket motor propulsion systems. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with program management on long-range planning concerning new or projected areas of technological research and advancements. You will also serve as a key spokesperson on the program's technical capabilities and future directions, developing and delivering technical presentations to management and government agencies. Responsibilities

  • Apply or develop highly advanced technologies and scientific principles for propulsion systems integration.
  • Review manufacturing processes and resolve problems related to solid rocket motor propulsion systems.
  • Collaborate with program management on long-range program planning and technological advancements.
  • Develop and deliver technical presentations to management and government agencies.
  • Work directly with subcontractors on the design and manufacturing of propulsion systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and 8 years of prior relevant experience OR an Advanced degree and 5 years of relevant experience.
  • 8 years of experience in propulsion technology and its application to solid propulsion systems.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field.
  • 10 or more years of directly related experience in propulsive technology and its application to solid or liquid, and/or mono propellant propulsion systems.
  • Experience in the development of solid propulsion systems from conceptual design through final test/assembly.
  • Systems knowledge to assure full development of propulsion requirements and dissemination to subcomponent levels.
