About the position

The Principal Engineer - Startup Testing at Longenecker & Associates (L&A) is responsible for defining the scope of technical programs and developing effective solutions to complex challenges in the field of startup testing. This role involves providing leadership, guidance, and technical expertise to ensure quality, timely, and cost-effective results while supporting critical missions for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The position requires a strong background in engineering or science, with a focus on startup testing and commissioning, and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Define scope of technical programs and develop effective, quality solutions to challenges.
  • Provide quality guidance and assistance to less senior professionals on related tasks.
  • Apply technical experience to resolve complex problems in startup testing.
  • Incorporate advanced technical practices into problem solving and program planning.
  • Evaluate results of programs and prepare reports and recommendations based on evaluations.
  • Prepare plans including schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements for technical tasks.
  • Monitor progress, expenditures, and quality of work performed.
  • Communicate results and objectives verbally and in written form to customers, colleagues, and management.
  • Enhance expertise in the field through leadership in local technical societies.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree in applicable science or engineering discipline and 5+ years' experience, or MS with 8+ years' experience, or BS with 10+ years' experience.
  • Technical knowledge of Startup Testing, including experience in design reviews, test procedure development, and field execution of testing/commissioning.
  • Demonstrated minimum of 1 year of recent testing/commissioning experience in the DOE/NNSA or commercial nuclear industry.
  • Ability to work in a diverse work environment and fulfill L&A core values.

Nice-to-haves

  • Possession of an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two years.
  • Prior SRS Design Engineering experience and knowledge of SRNS design processes and procedures.
  • Commissioning/Startup Testing qualification, Level II/III.
  • Experience in developing, reviewing, and presenting Technical Work Documents related to Commissioning/Testing.
