About the position

The Principal Engineer Systems - Global ART Lead Systems Engineer position at Northrop Grumman involves working within the Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications Experimentation Laboratory (C2BMC X-Lab) to develop and integrate future-capability prototypes for the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS). The role requires a disciplined systems engineering approach to analyze and enhance system performance, integrating external elements with C2BMC, and contributing to the development of advanced missile defense technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Define, develop, and integrate systems-of-systems.
  • Analyze high-level needs and refine capabilities into an integrated set of requirements.
  • Communicate effectively and present technical approaches and findings.
  • Work on IRAD-type projects.
  • Perform full cycle systems engineering of new capabilities.
  • Derive capabilities and requirements based on customer needs.
  • Design system interfaces and develop Interface Control Documents.
  • Lead the integration of R&D systems into C2BMC.
  • Assess C2BMC prototype system performance using state vectors.
  • Enhance experimental prototypes based on performance results.

Requirements

  • Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline with 5 years of related experience, or a Master's degree with 3 years of experience, or a PhD with 1 year of experience.
  • 1+ years of experience leading or contributing to an integrated team environment.
  • Experience with use case, system requirements, and performance specification development.
  • Understanding of systems engineering processes and principles.
  • Comfortable with rapidly changing requirements and tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Operations Concept (OPSCON) and Concept of Operations (CONOPS) development.
  • Experience with system and subsystem decomposition and integration practices.
  • Proficiency in analysis tool development using MATLAB, Excel, S-Code, and Satellite Toolkit (STK).
  • Operating systems experience with Windows and Unix/Linux.

Nice-to-haves

  • Current and active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Coding skills in Java, C++, and shell scripts.
  • Experience using Agile methodology for software development.
