About the position

The Principal Engineer-Technical Support Specialist at Edgewater Technical Associates is responsible for providing advanced technical expertise and support to operations at the Savannah River Site. This role involves directing and implementing technical operations programs, ensuring compliance with governing directives, and managing various technical functions related to the design, construction, and startup of facilities. The position requires interfacing with vendors, evaluating equipment, and developing training programs for technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced expertise and support to SRNS operations to resolve technical issues with site-wide implications.
  • Direct, plan, develop, implement, and administer technical operations related programs.
  • Ensure compliance of technical aspects of operations or maintenance programs with governing directives.
  • Direct and budget for various technical functions in support of pre-conceptual design, construction, and startup of facilities.
  • Interface and negotiate with vendors to resolve equipment, services, staffing, and technical issues.
  • Evaluate and analyze equipment, instruments, and procedures for upgrading operations programs.
  • Evaluate, test, and procure new equipment and instruments for operations programs.
  • Develop operating procedures and training programs for less qualified technicians.
  • Serve on committees regarding standardization of equipment, instrumentation, processes, and training.
  • Direct daily activities of less qualified technicians and serve as a point of contact for complex technical issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering preferred with 8-12 years of related experience, or an associate's degree with 12-15 years of practical experience, or a high school diploma with 4-6 additional years of practical experience.
  • Considerable creativity to address unique and new problem areas.
  • Ability to develop and administer schedules and performance requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Active DOE clearance ('L' or 'Q') within the past two years.
  • 20 years of operations or maintenance experience in Tritium Facilities or the commercial nuclear industry.
  • Certification/qualification in Tritium Facilities as a FLM, Planner, or SOM.
  • Experience with DOE Order 433.1B and related directives.
