About the position

The Principal Engineer position at MnDOT is responsible for supervising the materials function within District 3 to ensure the development of smooth, safe, and economical pavements. This role involves overseeing materials testing, managing programmed projects related to soils and pavement design, and administering the district's pavement management system.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the materials function for the district.
• Oversee materials testing processes.
• Manage programmed projects including soils and pavement design.
• Administer the district pavement management system.

Requirements

• Licensure as a professional Civil Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID).
• Three years of post-registration engineering experience at the Engineer Senior level or equivalent.
• Experience in materials engineering, roadway and pavement design, and pavement rehabilitation strategies.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
• Technical knowledge to interpret soils and pavement performance data.
• A valid Minnesota Class D driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with life cycle cost analysis.
• Knowledge of soil properties and characteristics related to highway engineering construction.
