About the position

The Principal Field Applications Engineer at NI-Emerson plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between technical expertise and customer needs. This position requires a balance of face-to-face technical interactions with target customers, technical activities, and providing valuable insights as the voice of the customer. Field Application Engineers are trusted technical consultants who influence the technical direction of target accounts, ensuring mutual long-term success for both the customer and NI-Emerson. They are responsible for inspiring internal technical stakeholders and customer engineers to take action by leading and coordinating technical strategies and activities that achieve co-authored technical objectives for top accounts. In this role, the engineer will spend a significant amount of time building key technical relationships with top accounts, demonstrating technical credibility, and increasing customer confidence in NI-Emerson's offerings. They will work closely with customers to understand and assist in the creation of technical requirements, providing recommendations on software architectures and hardware solutions while guiding customers on the next steps to ensure their success. Collaboration with NI-Emerson Account Managers is essential, as the engineer will lead the development and execution of the account's technical strategy, providing insights into the overall account strategy and pipeline. Additionally, the engineer will coordinate with internal technical stakeholders to execute account technical initiatives and provide feedback that enhances account success. By leveraging their industry knowledge, application area expertise, and understanding of customer needs, they will uncover and influence future technical demands, generating further interest in NI-Emerson products, services, and support. This position is compensated with an 80% base salary and 20% variable pay based on annual quota attainment.

Responsibilities

  • Build key technical relationships at top accounts, demonstrating technical credibility and increasing customer confidence in NI-Emerson.
  • Understand and assist in the creation of customer technical requirements.
  • Provide recommendations on software architectures and hardware solutions, guiding customers on next steps for success.
  • Collaborate with NI-Emerson Account Managers to lead the development and execution of the account technical strategy.
  • Coordinate with internal technical stakeholders to execute account technical initiatives and provide feedback to enhance account success.
  • Leverage industry, application area, and account knowledge to uncover and influence customer future technical needs and challenges.

Requirements

  • BS degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics).
  • 5 years of industry experience.
  • 3 years of programming experience.
  • 2 years of experience in RF Fundamentals and Measurements.
  • US Citizen / US Person.
  • Willing and able to travel regionally and to Austin, TX, up to 25%.

Nice-to-haves

  • Degree concentration in electrical or computer engineering.
  • Experience with LabVIEW, TestStand, and the PXI platform, including developer certifications.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in English.
  • 5 years of experience in RF Fundamentals and Measurements, Software Engineering concepts, and Automated Measurement Systems.
  • Advanced skill in at least one of the following programming languages: LabVIEW, .NET, Python, C++, C#.
  • Advanced skill in FPGA development using VHDL or LabView FPGA.
  • 2 years of experience in a customer-facing role.
  • Experience contributing to organization, account, or engagement strategies.
