About the position

Advanced Energy is seeking an experienced and competitive Field Applications Engineer (FAE) to drive sales growth in the industrial and medical power supply segment. The FAE will work closely with the sales team, marketing, and design engineers to provide highly differentiated technical support to customers, facilitating design wins across a diverse range of applications in the northeast region. This role is pivotal in supporting the adoption of Advanced Energy's power solutions at all stages of the customer engagement process, from presales activities to postproduction and installation support. The FAE's support will encompass various forms, including providing recommendations for Advanced Energy solutions, offering system architecture guidance, conducting schematic reviews, and delivering on-site customer qualification and debugging support. The goal is to be perceived as an integral part of the customers' design teams, where they actively seek the FAE's expertise to resolve system-level challenges. By fostering strong engineering relationships with customers, the FAE will identify and communicate technical requirements for new applications or customer needs that are not currently addressed by the existing product portfolio. This input is crucial for defining new products and shaping the product roadmap. Additionally, FAEs will regularly provide technology updates and product training to customers, sales teams, and distribution partners. As trusted advocates for customers, FAEs must possess the confidence and persuasive skills necessary to earn the respect of engineering leaders both internally and externally. The technical insights provided by the FAE will significantly influence the overall sales strategy, making this role essential for the company's success in the market.

Responsibilities

  • Support the adoption of Advanced Energy power solutions at all stages of the engagement process from presales activity to postproduction/installation support.
  • Provide AE solution recommendations, system architecture guidance, schematic review, and on-site customer qualification & debug support.
  • Develop engineering relationships with customers to identify and communicate technical requirements for new applications or customer needs.
  • Provide technology updates and product training to customers, sales, and distribution.
  • Act as a trusted customer advocate, earning respect from engineering leaders both internally and with the customer.
  • Influence the sales strategy with technical perspectives.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of power electronics design and/or applications experience.
  • BSEE degree.
  • Extensive knowledge of power electronics with the ability to qualify, test, modify, and debug power supplies in the lab as needed.
  • Basic knowledge of digital communication bus such as I2C bus and firmware reloading/rebooting experience.
  • Solid problem-solving methodology.
  • Charismatic communicator that can advocate for customers to an internal audience and for the company to the customer.
  • A passionate and curious technologist with an ability to learn and adapt to industry trends.
