About the position

The Principal Financial Analyst role at Medtronic is a key position within the Global Product Innovation (R&D) organization of the Diabetes operating unit. This role focuses on enhancing financial performance through accurate forecasting, expense management, and business partnering. The analyst will conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses, manage financial reporting, and collaborate with various teams to support the organization's objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and analyzes financial activities such as variance analysis, forecasting, financial planning, rates of return, cash flow, and other investments.
  • Acts as the point of contact for monthly analysis, forecasting, and guidance including key drivers, performance metrics, risks, and opportunities.
  • Provides key insights and analysis to identify actions to close target gaps.
  • Develops and enhances reporting and analytics to be leveraged across the organization.
  • Partners and collaborates with finance colleagues to develop the annual operating plan (AOP), recurring forecasts, and other ad hoc requests.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with key functions including FP&A, Corporate Finance, and other internal business partners.
  • Participates in month-end close by performing cost center analysis, journal entries postings, reconciliations, and other ad hoc activities as required.
  • Leverages insights to make continuous improvements to existing workflows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience or an advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to identify key trends and drivers.
  • Ability to effectively utilize systems/data to provide insightful analysis and implement recommendations.
  • Class III Medical device experience is preferred.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple and conflicting deadlines and priorities.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to influence key stakeholders at various management levels.
  • High level of initiative and self-motivation with the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent written/oral communication and presentation skills, including the ability to translate financial data into concise information for management.
  • Experience with projects requiring high matrix collaboration and relationship building.

Nice-to-haves

  • Financial Planning & Analysis (R&D) work experience, including sales expense analytics.
  • Experience with Medtronic financial systems: SAP, Essbase/Hyperion & Business Objects.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
