About the position

The Principal Financial Analyst at NextEra Energy Transmission plays a crucial role in leading financial analysis and valuation for acquisitions and greenfield infrastructure projects that are pivotal in accelerating the electric industry's transition to renewable energy. This position is primarily focused on investment valuation, financial due diligence, and providing expert insights to support strategic decision-making processes. The responsibilities of this role include building and owning comprehensive financial models, designing financial strategies in collaboration with developers, and presenting detailed analyses to executives. The successful candidate will work independently to assess the financial impact of various projects and initiatives, ensuring that all analyses are thorough and actionable. In this role, the Principal Financial Analyst will perform financial due diligence and prepare investment valuations for both acquisitions and greenfield projects within the energy sector. This includes assisting in the planning and coordination of these assignments, as well as working closely with managers and directors to ensure that all financial analyses align with the company's strategic goals. The analyst will be expected to identify and analyze the impact of relevant investment, environmental, and business issues on NextEra Energy's financial structure, profitability, and competitive position. The ability to comprehend, analyze, and resolve complex analytical issues is essential, as is the capacity to distill these issues into clear, understandable analyses for management decision-making. The successful candidate will communicate key investment benefits and risks to senior management and provide expertise and support to other departments within NextEra Energy that require financial consulting services or training. This role demands superior analytical, communication, and presentation skills, along with a strong drive for excellence and continuous improvement. Ideal candidates will have significant experience in valuation or project finance, advanced financial modeling skills in Excel, and preferably hold an MBA, CFA, or a Master's in Finance.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in planning and coordinating engagement assignments with Development Group Leaders
  • Reviews and signs off on engagement work products and presentations
  • Presents at executive management vetting meetings
  • Assists in developing and maintaining policies and standards for functional area (QAQC, document retention, model approaches, etc.)
  • Implements Valuation Group's initiatives, goals and objectives
  • Performs goal setting, evaluation and mentoring of direct reports
  • Promotes staff career development and advancement opportunities
  • Assists in group hiring and training processes
  • Works with third party bankers and consultants on acquisition related diligence as necessary
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 6+ years of relevant experience
