About the position

The position at Portland General Electric (PGE) involves providing economic modeling and power-cost projections to support financial planning and ratemaking. The role serves as an internal consultant on financial matters related to the power supply portfolio, creating financial models for future business planning and customer rate determination under PGE's tariff schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Develop longer-term financial models with complex assumptions and relationships.
  • Continuously improve and refine existing optimization models to incorporate new data sources, market trends, and regulatory changes.
  • Perform sensitivity analyses, scenario modeling, and risk assessments to evaluate the impact of various factors on portfolio performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and integrate them into existing models.
  • Develop standards and guidelines for reports documenting analyses and maintain business rules and data hierarchies.
  • Present information and provide advice on complex or escalated information requests to external parties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, power systems engineering, operations research, economics with a focus on econometrics, or related field.
  • Typically eight or more years in a related field with a focus on simulation or optimization modeling.
  • Intermediate knowledge of fundamental economic, business, and accounting principles.
  • Basic knowledge of macroeconomics, microeconomics, pricing theory, finance, accounting, and financial analysis.
  • Expert modeling skills and experience using Microsoft Excel.
  • Advanced knowledge of regulated utility operations and revenue requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with advanced mathematical skills, including calculus and statistics.
  • Ability to translate complex business problems into mathematical models.
  • Strong communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
