About the position

The Principal Financial Analyst at Discover Financial Services is responsible for leading high-value analytics projects from concept to implementation. This role involves coaching junior analysts, developing analytical capabilities, and managing risks associated with analytics initiatives. The analyst will design frameworks, influence data roadmaps, and partner with business owners to deliver impactful analytics solutions that drive organizational success.

Responsibilities

• Lead several high-value and critical analytics projects simultaneously from concept to implementation.
• Coach and guide junior analysts to develop robust analytics solutions.
• Perform research and build new analytical capabilities by adopting new tools and methodologies.
• Manage and escalate risk and customer-impacting issues to management.
• Design analytical frameworks and create an analytics roadmap for complex projects.
• Provide direction and thought leadership for new analytics initiatives.
• Influence the organizational data roadmap and create best practices for analytics.
• Partner with business and process owners on analytics projects from concept to delivery.
• Implement models and develop strategies in partnership with business.
• Drive excellence in value measurement and define success measures with business partners.
• Develop comprehensive cost-benefit analyses to capture financial impacts of initiatives.
• Present analysis results and strategy recommendations to senior leadership.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, or Analytics.
• 4+ years of experience in a Quantitative/Analytics/Data Science/Technical role.
• In lieu of education, 6+ years of experience in a Quantitative/Analytics/Data Science/Technical role with a Bachelor's degree.
