About the position
The Principal Firmware Engineer will play a crucial role in the Microsoft Silicon and Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) team, focusing on the development and integration of firmware for Azure Infrastructure. This position involves working on next-generation hardware and firmware technologies, ensuring high-quality deployment of new offerings and infrastructure. The engineer will be responsible for system integration, validation, and debugging, contributing to the overall mission of delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Drive, define, implement, and lead execution of firmware integration and validation test plans.
- Source, debug, and resolve hardware and software bugs.
- Architect and implement test cases and frameworks for testing and coverage.
- Identify and address inefficiencies and gaps in coverage and testing execution.
- Mentor, guide, and help peers and other team members.
- Enhance and fine-tune future hardware/software product solutions and architect new ones.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering or related technical discipline.
- 6+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- 6+ years of professional experience designing, developing, or testing software and hardware.
- Experience with SoC/Platform Architecture and design from early concept to shipping final product.
- Experience with Platform Initialization, Manageability, Security, Motherboard, Drivers, UEFI, BMC, OS, Virtualization, Memory Management, RAS, or similar areas.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.
Nice-to-haves
- BS in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience working on multiple products supporting customer issues with troubleshooting and debugging skills.
- Experience with Architecting, Designing, and delivering on new Data Center class technologies across the entire platform.
- Debug experience resulting in solving complex hardware/firmware interface issues.
- Experience with Implementation of Hardware/Firmware Security primitives.
- Experience developing software/hardware coverage, stimulus, and test content.
- Experience with firmware development life cycle with emphasis on validation and integration.
- Proficient in C++ or equivalent.
- Experience in leading teams, assessing coverage, debugging hardware/software issues, and writing scripts (Python or similar).
