About the position

The Principal Flight Operations Engineer at Horizon Air serves as the sole subject matter expert for all engineering-related activities within flight operations. This role is crucial for defining long-term strategies aimed at operational improvements and cost savings for the E175 fleet. The engineer will engage in research, analysis, and calculations to assess the viability of initiatives that enhance fleet performance, fuel efficiency, and operational capacities, ensuring safety and compliance throughout the process.

Responsibilities

  • Provide input and expertise to the Flight Operations department for engineering-related initiatives.
  • Define long-term strategy for operational improvements and cost savings for the E175 fleet.
  • Make decisions regarding the viability of initiatives focused on fleet performance and operational efficiencies.
  • Develop, analyze, and implement cost-saving and operational initiatives, including fuel burn reduction strategies.
  • Continuously monitor fleet operational health and develop policies to maintain safe and compliant operations.
  • Manage data streams and functionality of weight & balance systems, including developing test scripts and overseeing programming changes.
  • Maintain and revise weight and balance program documentation and technical substantiation documents.
  • Provide updates and support to the FAA-approved Aircraft Operating Manual, including drafting and routing change requests.
  • Influence and support relationships with aircraft manufacturers and flight operations counterparts from other operators.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors to maintain aircraft performance data and ensure safety policies are implemented.

Requirements

  • 7 years of experience in fleet support engineering.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, preferably in aeronautical science.
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations Parts 25, 36, 91, and 121.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to influence up to the executive level and across departments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Nice-to-haves

  • Applied knowledge of programming languages such as Visual Basic, Python, or MathLab.
  • Knowledge of aircraft weight and balance terminology and methods.
