The position supports the design, deployment, and operations of a large-scale global Oracle cloud computing environment, specifically focusing on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). The role is primarily centered around the development and deployment of physical rack layouts, cabling design, and the testing and qualification of physical components deployed by Network Engineering. The ideal candidate will have a diverse background in various areas of network hardware engineering, including cabling, low-level device performance, and thermal management. Given that OCI is a cloud-based network with a global footprint, the support will encompass hundreds of thousands of network devices that support millions of servers, interconnected through a combination of dedicated backbone infrastructure and the Internet. In this role, the engineer will lead the standardization of rack SKUs and the buildout of a standardized cabling solution by defining high-level objectives and delivery procedures. The position involves organizing project technical milestones and supporting tasks, potentially acting as a project technical lead while coordinating the efforts of two or three engineers. The engineer will advise project and program managers and coordinate with both immediate and skip-level leadership. Collaboration across teams within the same organization and outside of it is essential, as the engineer will serve as a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) in cross-functional activities. The engineer will have technical responsibility for complex projects, including project requirements, specifications, and documentation. They will be responsible for breaking down high-level architectures into detailed designs and leading multiple engineers in developing network solutions that consist of multiple modules with complex interactions. The role also requires working with supporting service teams to ensure that solutions are adequately supported by monitoring and automation systems. The engineer will serve as a specialized escalation point for all physical design and cabling issues within networking and will be the principal point of contact for driving systematic resolution of complex network design issues. A strong understanding of current and future cabling and optical standards, cable plant design, rack structural calculations, and rack integration best practices is necessary. Additionally, the engineer will provide guidance to technical and senior technical staff, interpret input from leaders, and offer focused development to junior members, including conducting technical coaching sessions to help them develop their skills. The role may also involve collaboration with vendor engineering and account managers to address current business or operational issues, participation in the development of RFQ/RFPs, and leading the adoption of new vendor hardware. Active communication with product teams is crucial, as the engineer will be responsible for driving technology to meet product and service requirements and participating in coordinated communication with product teams, networking leadership, and PMO to assess gaps, solutions, and needs.
