About the position

As a Principal Hardware Engineer-Acoustics in Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing innovative products and solutions that enhance the performance, efficiency, and reliability of Microsoft's data centers. This role requires collaboration with a cross-functional team to identify customer needs and deliver high-quality solutions, with a focus on engineering acoustics.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical systems for data center critical environments focusing on low noise and high efficiency.
• Analyze, simulate, and model noise and vibration of systems in critical environments.
• Define product requirements for noise control both internally and cross-functionally.
• Influence product roadmap and strategy regarding noise control.
• Act as a subject matter expert for noise control in data center systems architectures.
• Embody Microsoft's culture and values.

Requirements

• 10+ years of technical engineering experience OR a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience OR a Master's degree in the same fields AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience OR a Doctorate degree in the same fields AND 4+ years of technical engineering experience.
• 4+ years of experience with mission critical systems such as datacenters, healthcare, oil, military, or utilities.
• 4+ years of experience designing systems and/or developing products for industrial or mission critical environments.
