Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is at the forefront of powering Microsoft's expanding Cloud Infrastructure, which is integral to the company's "Intelligent Cloud" mission. This team is responsible for delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies that support over 200 online businesses, including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. A key component of SCHIE's mission is the development of a highly programmable Data Processing Unit (DPU) chip, which plays a crucial role in enhancing the infrastructure's capabilities. The Principal Hardware Engineer will be a pivotal member of the DPU team, tasked with delivering cutting-edge silicon that is high performance, low power, scalable, and programmable. This role is essential in ensuring that the hardware meets the demands of modern cloud computing and supports Microsoft's vision of empowering every person and organization on the planet to achieve more. The culture at Microsoft emphasizes a growth mindset, innovation, and collaboration, fostering an environment where respect, integrity, and accountability are paramount. Employees are encouraged to thrive in a culture of inclusion, contributing to shared goals and driving the company's mission forward. In this role, you will be part of the verification team, where you will independently create leading-edge verification environments and simulation testbeds. Your primary responsibility will be to validate and ensure the functional correctness of innovative designs. Utilizing standard simulation tools such as ns3 or OMNeT, you will develop traffic generators and implement accurate models of protocols and devices. This work will be instrumental in informing and influencing architectural and design directions, ensuring that the hardware developed meets the high standards expected by Microsoft and its customers.
