About the position

The Principal Hardware Engineer position at Westinghouse Electric Co is responsible for the design, integration, and documentation of Plant Process Computer Systems used in nuclear power plants. This role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that hardware designs meet customer requirements, including the design of custom adapters and cabling to transition existing plant equipment to new technology. The position requires both remote and onsite work, emphasizing the importance of flexibility and collaboration in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform hardware design and review in the area of system architecture, network layout, cabinet design, system cabling interface, custom panel and kit design, cabinet power design.
• Perform data acquisition designs including interface cabling and custom adapter designs.
• Select components to meet system needs and contract deliverables.
• Participate in the set-up, system modification, system integration, testing, and delivery of projects.
• Perform network switch configuration and documentation.
• Develop proposals and establish costs and budgets for hardware design efforts and system components.
• Understand and implement quality standards applicable to nuclear safety systems.
• Travel and work with local and international customers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with applicable years of experience in hardware design and integration.
• Minimum 12 years of applicable experience required.
• Experience with data acquisition hardware and software.
• Knowledge of circuit designs to support custom cables and interfaces.
• Knowledge of Data Acquisition systems consisting of servers, workstations, controllers, and I/O modules or boards.
• Experience with ACAD and 3D modeling.
• Experience in drawing creation and review.
