We are seeking a Principal Hardware Quality Engineer to join our Operations Quality - Continuous Improvement Team. This role is crucial in assuring product and process quality, with a strong emphasis on Product Compliance, Customer Satisfaction, and Continuous Improvement. The ideal candidate will have hands-on hardware quality experience and will be responsible for driving quality initiatives that enhance our manufacturing processes and product reliability. In this position, you will baseline factory metrics such as Scrap, Rework, First Pass Yield (FPY), and Time Under Heat (TUH). You will identify the top drivers affecting these metrics, forecast future demand, and pinpoint areas for improvement. Engaging with Manufacturing Department teams will be essential to ensure alignment on priorities, utilizing baseline data and forecasts to drive containment, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation. You will perform process walks and operator observations, leading discussions with manufacturing teams to enhance processes and reduce variation. Your role will also involve standardizing data entry to improve analysis cycle times and leading Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) initiatives, including PFMEA, control plans, and Statistical Process Control (SPC). Additionally, you will identify supplier issues and ensure proper containment and backflow to the Supplier Quality Management team, while calculating Return on Investment (ROI) for identified Continuous Improvement (CI) project opportunities. Your contributions will be vital in verifying and validating improvements to assess their effectiveness and identifying opportunities for enhancements across similar processes and programs. Responsibilities

  • Baseline factory metrics (Scrap, Rework, FPY, TUH, etc.) and identify top drivers for improvement.
  • Engage Manufacturing Department teams to ensure alignment on top priorities using baseline data and forecasts.
  • Perform process walks, operator observations, and lead discussions to drive process enhancements.
  • Standardize data entry to improve data analysis cycle time.
  • Lead Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) initiatives including PFMEA, control plans, and SPC.
  • Identify supplier escapes/issues and ensure proper containment and backflow to the Supplier Quality Management team.
  • Calculate Return on Investment (ROI) for identified Continuous Improvement project opportunities.
  • Perform verification and validation of improvements to understand effectiveness.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements to leverage across similar processes and programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) or other technical field of study.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years related Quality Engineering experience.
  • Manufacturing process experience in assembly, inspection, or testing.
  • Experience with industry technical standards.
  • Experience in identifying root cause and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Experience in development and usage of Quality metrics for root cause analysis and corrective action identification.
  • Previous experience with MRP systems and Shop Floor Management Tools (PRISM, VM).
  • Experience interpreting drawings, work instructions, Bill of Materials (BOMs), and process disciplines.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated knowledge of key process characteristics and effective process control techniques.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong familiarity with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality management systems.
  • CORE, Six Sigma, Shainin Red X, ASQ Certifications.
  • Proficient in pareto analysis, cause/effect diagrams, and process mapping.
  • Experienced in Product/Process Failure Modes & Effects Analysis and Regression Analysis.
  • Knowledge of Measurement System Analysis and Design of Experiments.
  • Ability to facilitate cross-functional teams in systematic improvement activities.
