About the position

As a Principal Hardware System Design Engineer at Ruckus Networks, you will play a pivotal role in the design and development of high-speed hardware systems for Wi-Fi access points and related accessories. This position requires a deep understanding of RF subcircuits and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse engineering team that includes electrical, mechanical, and software engineers. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring that our products meet the rigorous standards of the wireless industry while also addressing the growing demand for high-bandwidth applications and services. In this role, you will be responsible for the complete lifecycle of hardware design, from initial concept through to product launch. This includes designing and bringing up Wi-Fi access point products, debugging and validating designs, and investigating new hardware solutions. You will also be tasked with reviewing and evaluating outsourced projects, ensuring that all designs meet the necessary specifications and standards. Collaboration with the RF and Antenna teams will be essential to integrate and validate designs effectively. Documentation is a key aspect of this role, as you will be required to generate various technical documents such as Proof of Concept (PoC), Product Requirement Documents (PRD), Hardware Requirement Documents (HRD), Hardware Functional Specifications (HWFS), Bill of Materials (BOM), test plans, and Failure Analysis (FA) reports. Additionally, you will support compliance testing and sustain legacy products, ensuring that they continue to meet customer needs and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Design and bring-up Wi-Fi AP products and accessories.
  • Debug and validate Wi-Fi AP designs.
  • Investigate, present, and evaluate new hardware solutions and/or PoC.
  • Review and evaluate designs of outsourced projects.
  • Work with RF team and Antenna team to integrate designs and validate designs together.
  • Generate necessary documents for all categories listed above, such as PoC, PRD, HRD, HWFS, BOM, test plan, FA report.
  • Support compliance testing.
  • Sustain legacy products.

Requirements

  • Minimum BSEE with 5+ years of relevant experience in high-speed digital hardware design.
  • Experience in all aspects of hardware design including schematics capture, PCB layout constraint, DFM implementation, bring-up and design validations.
  • Experience in common interfaces such as PCIe, 10GE, DDR4, SPI, I2C, USB, UART.
  • Excellent knowledge of Signal Integrity (SI) and Power Integrity (PI) for high-speed designs.
  • Excellent knowledge of DC/DC switching power supply including PoE PSE and PD.
  • Strong proficiency in OrCAD, Allegro, Arena, and Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with design for compliance/regulatory testing.
  • Familiarity with lab equipment such as logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, Sifos PoE testers, and thermal chambers.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to proactively lead the whole design from scratch to product.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic knowledge of RF and antenna.
  • Familiarity with main Wi-Fi SOC in the industry, like Qualcomm or Broadcom.
  • Ability to manage third-party sourcing components, design, and/or design reviews.
  • Experience in ODM, JDM design, and contractor manufacture.
