About the position

The Principal Healthcare Data Specialist will work within the NYS Department of Health's Division of Data Services and Analytics (DDSA) to support the data needs of the NYS Medicaid program. This role focuses on gathering and documenting project requirements for data categorization, enhancing data-driven policy agendas, and improving program efforts. The ideal candidate will leverage their experience to research, document, and provide insights into data classification and categorization, while collaborating effectively within a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Gather and document project requirements for the data categorization practice.
• Research and document standards and methodologies from various existing sources.
• Interpret existing standards, guidelines, and methodologies to produce summary documentation.
• Translate technical specifications and communicate them clearly to a broad audience.
• Work independently and collaboratively in a team environment to advance data categorization projects.
• Create document/report templates and documentation.
• Coordinate meetings and produce meeting minutes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• At least eight years of work experience in a related field.
• Exceptional verbal, written, presentation, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with SharePoint, Teams, PowerPoint, and Visio preferred.
• Experience coordinating meetings and producing meeting minutes preferred.
