About the position

The Staff Relations Labor Relations team at MSTS is responsible for managing labor relations functions, including negotiations with union leaders and management, handling sensitive employee issues, and ensuring compliance with labor laws. This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality while addressing complex labor relations matters.

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior-level services regarding all labor relations functions.
  • Collaborate with Union Leaders and Management to resolve complex issues and reach agreements.
  • Lead and co-chair contract negotiations, managing preparations and processes including key financial information.
  • Conduct investigations on internal and external employee concerns and complaints.
  • Assist with grievances from unions and ensure resolutions through proper processes.
  • Review policies, procedures, agreements, and instructions related to labor relations and advise management accordingly.
  • Prepare internal and external reports on investigations utilizing the Association of Workplace Investigations (AWI) process.
  • Provide backup to the random drug-screening program and handle consequences of positive drug/alcohol screenings.
  • Interface with Legal, Internal Audit, and Employee Relations on various issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and at least 8 years of professional level experience, or equivalent training and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience as a lead in negotiations.
  • Knowledge of legal requirements affecting the Labor Relations Office.
  • Knowledge of Human Resource principles, Equal Opportunity law, and National Labor Relations Board laws.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with all levels of personnel.
  • Detail-oriented with effective oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources desired.
  • Professional Human Resources (PHR) and (AWI) certification preferred.
