About the position

The Principal Industrial Data Architect at Sylvamo plays a vital role in designing, implementing, and managing data architecture solutions that support the company's manufacturing operations. This position focuses on ensuring seamless integration of data across various industrial systems, including IoT platforms, MES, ERP systems, and more, while driving data strategy in alignment with digital transformation initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide global, enterprise-level guidance and strategy for Sylvamo's operational technology architecture.
  • Lead the creation of a scalable and consistent industrial data architecture that supports mill and manufacturing operations.
  • Oversee the integration of various industrial systems, such as IoT, MES, and ERP, to ensure smooth data flow and real-time availability.
  • Develop and maintain data models and schemas to support industrial applications and business intelligence.
  • Implement processes to standardize and contextualize data from different sources.
  • Ensure data security through robust measures and maintain compliance with industry regulations and standards.
  • Manage the integration of on-premise data systems with cloud solutions.
  • Establish and enforce data governance practices to maintain data integrity, quality, and consistency.
  • Continuously monitor and work with infrastructure and database teams to optimize data architecture for performance and cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensure that data backup and disaster recovery strategies are in place.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in data architecture or related roles, preferably within industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Proficiency in industrial data protocols (e.g., OPC-UA, MQTT), IoT platforms, MES, ERP systems, and cloud computing technologies.
  • Prior experience executing predictive maintenance/asset performance management solutions in an industrial environment, preferred.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, data modeling, and database management systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and execute methodically.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) and advanced analytics platforms.
  • Familiarity with industrial automation systems, SCADA, and PLCs.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity practices related to industrial data systems.

Nice-to-haves
