About the position

The Principal Instrumentation Engineer will supervise and coordinate a team of instrumentation and controls personnel, ensuring productivity, safety, and adherence to project timelines. This role involves overseeing the development and design of control systems, managing compliance with industry standards, and providing technical support during construction and startup activities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform project development and design for control systems, including DCS, SIS and HMI systems.
  • Manage, review, and optimize development of control systems and safety system design ensuring efficient operation and compliance with environmental and safety standards.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISA, NEC, IEC), including proper documentation, commissioning reports, and test plans.
  • Provide technical support during control system construction and startup activities.
  • Assist with the development of new systems, processes, and tools to improve efficiency and reliability within the plant.
  • Participate in risk assessments, HAZOP studies, and control system safety reviews to mitigate potential hazards and ensure system safety.

Requirements

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in the petrochemical industry, focusing on instrumentation and control systems in heavy industrial environments.
  • Strong expertise in distributed control systems (DCS) and safety instrumented systems (SIS).
  • Proven experience with industrial automation and control system integration with large scale plant projects.
  • Hands-on experience in the installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and controls systems in industrial environments.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific standards and regulations, including ISA, NEC, IEC, and OSHA guidelines.
  • Experience managing teams on instrumentation and controls projects.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead teams and provide expert guidance.
  • Understanding of modern data-centric solutions and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Knowledge of process control, pneumatic systems, calibration techniques, and instrumentation maintenance practices.

  • Honeywell TDC 3000, Emerson Delta V and/or Triconex SIS experience.
