About the position

The Principal IT Business Analyst serves as a crucial link between IT and business units at Magellan HealthCare, focusing on understanding and defining data requirements to support program planning and performance measures. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure that technical systems align with business needs, while also maintaining data quality and usability across enterprise applications.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a liaison between IT and business units to understand data definitions and workflows.
  • Investigate and document various work processes.
  • Develop proof of concepts to demonstrate workflows and gain user/stakeholder buy-in.
  • Analyze data requirements to determine if needed data exists in clinical systems.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, developers, analysts, and data architects to meet business needs.
  • Ensure data quality by identifying integration errors and improving data quality.
  • Determine ways to reuse data structures, interfaces, and APIs for other business needs.
  • Provide support to integration developers by documenting rules and procedures for data transformation and loading.
  • Lead junior IT Analysts through the software development cycle and assist with problem-solving and root cause analysis.
  • Drive usability and quality of software developed within the area.
  • Plan, prioritize, and deliver enhancements for enterprise applications.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst / Technical Business Analyst.
  • Experience in MS Office suite, including Excel.
  • Intermediate relational database understanding required.
  • Familiarity with SQL preferred.
  • Experience creating or authoring technical design documents at a high level.
  • Healthcare knowledge/terminology preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytic, evaluation, and problem-solving skills required.
  • General database or data investigation skills.
  • Ability to prepare clear, accurate, and informative designs and documentation.
  • Exposure to API requirements, mapping, and development preferred.
  • Experience in requirements gathering and turning requirements into specifications is preferred.
