About the position

The Principal Instructional Designer at MD Anderson Cancer Center plays a crucial role within the IS Division, collaborating with the IT Training Team, subject matter experts, and management to design and deliver comprehensive information services training. This position involves leading training design and planning, supervising instructional designers, and ensuring effective training delivery, particularly for the Epic system. The ideal candidate will possess Epic certification and experience in training design and delivery, specifically for the latest Epic version.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and maintain training curriculum for medium to large applications or roles.
  • Serve as lead instructional designer, creating and managing development schedules and implementation plans for training.
  • Gather requirements and design training tracks/courses for medium to large applications or roles.
  • Make curriculum improvements or enhancements and maintain the Epic training environment.
  • Create and maintain all training materials, including online training modules.
  • Serve as a liaison between the build team and end users, addressing risks and concerns.
  • Deliver instructor-led training and support overall training delivery needs of the division.
  • Define training implementation programs, coordinating schedules, training rooms, and resources.
  • Provide training for new staff and ongoing training for software releases and updates.
  • Credential additional trainers and departmental trainers to deliver material.
  • Travel between locations for training schedules and provide off-shift training as needed.
  • Maintain training documentation and records, providing support during and after go-live of enhancements.
  • Design, develop, and monitor adherence to departmental processes and standards.
  • Lead special projects to improve training team effectiveness and provide guidance to instructional designers.
  • Deliver feedback on work products and performance to instructional designers and training staff.
  • Complete performance evaluations for designated instructional designers and promote professional growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Seven years of experience in analyzing, developing, designing, implementing, and evaluating training programs in a healthcare environment.
  • Two years of lead/supervisory experience required.
  • Epic certification preferred, with multiple certifications being a plus.
  • Experience designing and delivering training for Epic 2015 version at MD Anderson Cancer Center preferred.
  • Experience in an academic healthcare setting and as a subject matter expert (clinical, financial, or other) is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
  • Functional experience as a subject matter expert in clinical or financial areas.
  • Five years of supervisory/lead experience in training efforts within an academic healthcare setting.
