The Principal Linux Systems Administrator at BAE Systems is responsible for providing comprehensive support for the implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Information Technology (IT) systems. This role involves managing the IT system infrastructure and overseeing all processes related to these systems. The administrator will support IT systems through day-to-day operations, monitoring, and problem resolution for various devices including client/server/storage/network devices and mobile devices. In this position, the administrator will provide Tier 1 (Help Desk) and Tier 2 (Escalation) support, identifying, diagnosing, and resolving problems. They will also be responsible for escalating issues and communicating status updates to agency management and internal customers. The role includes configuring and managing UNIX and Windows operating systems, installing and loading operating system software, troubleshooting, maintaining system integrity, and configuring network components. Enhancements to operating systems will also be implemented to improve reliability and performance. The Level 2 System Administrator must possess a strong capability to optimize system operations and resource utilization, perform system capacity analysis and planning, and provide in-depth troubleshooting experience. They will be expected to deliver detailed analysis and feedback to management for escalated tickets and remain involved in the resolution process for hardware problems. This position requires a proactive approach to managing the daily activities of configuration and operation of IT systems, as well as assisting users in accessing and utilizing these systems effectively.
