About the position

The Principal Machine Learning Data Scientist at MITRE Corporation is a leadership role focused on applying advanced analytics and machine learning techniques to solve critical national problems. This position requires a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience in data science, with an emphasis on developing and implementing innovative solutions in various domains such as healthcare, transportation, and national security. The role also involves leading projects, mentoring junior staff, and effectively communicating complex results to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Apply advanced analytics techniques throughout the machine learning lifecycle to ensure reproducibility and trustworthiness.
• Develop, test, evaluate, and demonstrate data science and machine learning solutions.
• Architect cloud and big data analytics solutions, particularly in commercial cloud environments like AWS and Azure.
• Lead project-level and task-level analytics engagements, providing oversight of analytical capability development.
• Translate complex results into actionable recommendations for senior leadership and non-technical audiences.
• Provide technical leadership on projects, mentoring junior staff and serving as a senior subject matter expert.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 8 years with a Master's degree; or 5 years with a PhD in a relevant field.
• Experience using existing AI frameworks such as TensorFlow, Caffe, Cognitive Toolkit, or Torch.
• Proficient in Python and SQL.
• Eligible for a US Government clearance (Secret).
• Hands-on experience with data science techniques including statistical analysis, mathematical optimization, machine learning, deep learning, or reinforcement learning.

Nice-to-haves

• Advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field.
• Knowledge or experience with trusted machine learning.
• Experience applying deep learning techniques.
• Knowledge of MLOps, particularly in the AWS environment.
• Possess an active US Government clearance (Secret).
